Vote for the best wood-based innovation in the New Wood Competition
The Forest.fi innovation page provides information about wood-based products and solutions. Nineteen of these inventions are competing in the New Wood Competition 2025, where the public can vote for their favourite.
The New Wood Competition 2025 features a variety of packaging solutions, in addition to a phone stand, a coffin made from recycled wood, a wall element, and a green canopy.
“The wide range of competition entries shows that wood-based material innovations are beginning to appear on a large scale in various everyday products. The nominees also include several solutions that utilise side streams and recycled materials,” says Virpi Korhonen, project manager for the New Wood.
All solutions in the competition share innovative use of wood and align with sustainable development goals. The wood-based material used in a competition entry may already be known, but the commercial product or application must be new.
“The goal of the competition is to raise awareness of innovations in the wood-based bioeconomy and to seek new solutions to global challenges,” says Korhonen.
New Wood and Forest.fi are collaborating by publishing articles on new wood-based products on Forest.fi’s innovation page. The page also features articles covering all nineteen inventions submitted to the New Wood Competition 2025.
The New Wood Competition is now in its sixth year. The winner will be selected by a jury comprising influential figures from society.
The winner and the audience favourite will be announced on October 22, 2025, at Finlandia Hall in Helsinki during the Forest Days event (Metsäpäivät), organised by the Finnish Forest Association. A Mysoda Glassy carbonation device made of wood composite will be raffled among those who participate in the public vote.
