Laser scanning in forestry (LiDAR) (Laserskannaus)
A method where forests are “measured” using laser pulses, typically from an airplane, drone, or sometimes from the ground.
Laser scanning sends out a large number of laser pulses toward the forest. When these pulses hit trees, vegetation, or the ground, they bounce back. By measuring how long it takes for the light to return, a highly accurate 3D map of the forest can be created.
