Cardboard cups have traditionally been coated by plastics or wax in order to prevent the absorption of liquids into the cardboard. In Huhtamäki company’s Future Smart the coating is made of sugar canes. The coating prevents the absorption of moisture and creates a high-quality, lacquer-like surface for the cup.

The cup is meant for hot and cold drinks, ice cream and take-away food as well. The coating makes the cup fully renewable. The cardboard used in the cup is made of PEFC certified wood.
