Natural resource plan, NRP (luonnonvarasuunnitelma)

Natural resources plannning means long term planning of sustainable use of large land and water areas. Generally, there are many needs of use towards these areas, such as nature protection, forestry, recreational use, nature tourism, real estate development and trade of soil materials. The target is to gain as large common benefit as possible by adapting these needs to each other.

In Finland, natural resources plans are prepared for state-owned commercial forests. They are prepared in large stakeholder cooperation, including local stakeholders, and they define, among other things, how much there will be loggings in state-owned forests during the planning period. The plans are renovated every fifth year.
