Wood-based acoustic panel effectively reduces reverberation

Uusi puu – The New Wood Project shows what wood can do. The project promotes wood-based innovations and provides information about them.

Fiberwood’s bio-based acoustic panel is a plastic-free solution for improving room acoustics. At the end of its service life, the panel can be recycled and reused.

Fiberwood’s wall-mounted acoustic panel reduces reverberation and improves the sound environment indoors. It can replace plastic- and mineral wool-based acoustic solutions.

The panel is made primarily from wood and other bio-based raw materials. The product is plastic-free and has a breathable structure.

The acoustic panel has a negative GWP, meaning a negative global warming potential. The carbon stored in the wood raw material remains stored in the product until the end of its service life.

Fiberwood uses side streams from the mechanical wood industry as raw material for its panels. Instead of burning wood chips for energy and releasing the carbon stored in them into the atmosphere within a short period, they are used to make long-lasting products and carbon stores. Processing side streams into building materials offers the construction industry a concrete way to advance its climate goals.

At the end of their service life, the acoustic panels can be returned to Fiberwood. They can be reused as raw material, recycled as wood, composted or used to produce biochar. As the product is recyclable and highly resistant to wear and dirt, it has a long service life and generates less waste.

Fiberwood describes its production process as lightweight and flexible, which helps reduce investment and operating costs and makes smaller production runs more cost-effective. This can also reduce the need for long supply chains with a high environmental impact.
