Veneer (viilu)

Veneer is a thin ”plate” of wood, cut or “peeled” from the surface of a rotating veneer or peeler block, rather like slicing cheese with a cheese slicer. A veneer block is a length of stemwood with a quality and dimensions which make it suitable for turning. When the veneer block has produced as much veneer as possible, a thin stem remains. This is called a veneer or peeler core. Veneer is used in furniture-making and also to make plywood.
