forest.fi online magazine has had a makeover – Finnish forest sector’s joint publication provides topical information for forest debate

Forest sector in Finland

Welcome to the new forest.fi website. Finding information on interesting and topical themes is now easier than ever.

The new forest.fi website talks about forest-related themes that are of interest to many and frequently give rise to questions: biodiversity, silviculture, forest resources, and bioeconomy. The site navigation has been redesigned to allow easy access to each theme. Links to the hottest topics, such as climate change, are now located right on the front page.

In addition to themes of topical interest, the website can be browsed via elements familiar from before. Forest facts provide background data to the weekly news articles, and graphs illustrating the forest branch complement the picture.

The front page contains a direct link to the most popular element of the forest.fi website: the English-Finnish and Finnish-English forest glossary. As before, the glossary explains the meaning of each term in an easily understandable way. The Forest bioeconomy future catalogue, with updates on innovations in the branch, is now also accessible through the forest.fi website.

forest.fi was first launched close to 15 years ago. For some years now it has been part of the website of the Finnish Forest Association. Having gradually established a stable position as the joint publication of the entire Finnish forest sector, forest.fi is now ready to take the next step in its development.

In the future, international audiences will receive more emphasis as a target group and their needs will be better taken into consideration. The Finnish forest sector will be given more opportunities to present itself on the website, and forest specialists will be invited to participate by means of blog entries and other contributions.

forest.fi is the only international channel of communication used by the entire Finnish forest sector. It is published in English and Finnish. In future, awareness of it will be raised in the European countries most important for the Finnish forest sector, by developing its content and by marketing efforts.

The content of the forest.fi website may be freely used as long as the source is cited, with the exception of the photos, the use of which requires a special permission. The website is produced by the Finnish Forest Association, and it is financed by the Finnish Forest Foundation, Metsä Group, Stora Enso, UPM, the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners MTK, the Finnish Sawmills Association, the state forest company Metsähallitus, the Finnish Forest Centre, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and, as regards the Forest bioeconomy future catalogue, by the Metsämiesten Säätiö Foundation.

Your comments on the new website are welcome through our feedback channels or by e-mail to forest@smy.fi. We also welcome all suggestions and ideas regarding our future development.
